At 8:00 am, meet at a designated fly shop and drive a couple minutes to a spot for casting instruction and practice on land.
- Fly casting on land and discuss different flies for different situations.
- Return to the fly shop to go over rigging our gear and important knots. Fly tying will be demonstrated, and you will be invited to tie a fly.
- Lunch together to discuss fly fishing. Among other issues, we will discuss water safety and river etiquette. We can eat at a nearby restaurant, or each of us can bring a sack lunch, whichever you prefer.
- Travel to a spot on the river to fish. The primary purpose will be for you to learn how to manage your line and flies in moving water. Different techniques will be used. You may or may not catch fish… but we hope you will!
Around 3:30 pm: Come out of the water for a concluding discussion to review what you have learned during the day.
We will be happy to respond to any of your questions. This lesson will proceed at a very relaxed pace. There is no hurry, and you may take your time during every part of this lesson.
